A.P. Robinson is credited with being the founder of Conway. He came here soon after the Civil War as the chief engineer for the Little Rock-Fort Smith Railroad. He was given, through his employment, a small tract of land near Cadron. He later deeded a small part of the land back to the railroad for a depot. He began the town site around this depot and named it Conway Station for a famous Arkansas family.
Conway became the county seat of Faulkner County in 1873 when the county was created. Conway incorporated in October of 1875.
